Executive Director, Communication and Public Engagement

Genomics England Ltd

The Challenge?

Genomics England works with government, the NHS, industry and the public at the cutting edge of science, technology and healthcare.

Its goal is to realise the potential of genomic medicine: to embed state-of-the-art care in the NHS, bring health benefits to UK citizens, and consolidate the UK’s position as the ‘go to’ destination for international genomic research and investment. GE Ltd is a central pillar of the Government’s emerging industrial strategy for life sciences.

Penna Enterprise was commissioned to undertake an international search for a Board level Communications and Engagement professional who had the expertise to operate in both complex public sector and health settings and stakeholder environments, including the investment community.

The Solution?

The international search delivered a shortlist of five, four talented individuals from the commercial sector with one having both public and private sector experience. The successful candidate came from one of the largest healthcare companies in the world, Aetna International where she was Global Head of Communications and Public Affairs.

The Result?

A successful Penna Education appointment was made. As a result of this we were recommended to the Medical Research Council to deliver an international search for the Director (CEO) of the UK’s Immunology Unit at Oxford University which forms part of their COVID response team. We successfully appointed during the height of the pandemic.
